‘No milk in my tea,’ she said. ‘But you’ve always drunk your tea with milk.’ ‘I don’t like it anymore. Actually I never liked it, but when I first started drinking tea, it came with milk and I thought that was how tea was supposed to be. So I put up with it and finally didn’t notice the taste anymore.’
Life’s like that. We accept what we don’t like until a tipping point invites something different. Sometimes we choose change and sometimes change chooses us.
Maybe you’ve woken this morning knowing ‘not this,’ which will herald the end of a job or a relationship. Or perhaps you looked in the mirror, or had a conversation, or simply ran out of milk for your tea.
Whatever the trigger, change is afoot. So much of life is on autopilot that knowing what you like and what matters gets easily buried. Having made a choice, the reasons for staying with it get lost.
So, today, try questioning everything. Why this job? Why these friends? Why this food? Why that way home? It might be unsettling or it may affirm that you are on the right track. Either way, you’ll be making conscious choices and opening up to the possibility of something a great deal better.
